মেধা সম্পত্তি অধিকার (আইপিআর) প্রতিষ্ঠার জন্য, বাংলাদেশ মেধা সম্পত্তি আইন প্রণয়ন করেছে এবং এই বিষয়ে আন্তর্জাতিক মান থেকে প্রাসঙ্গিক বিধান অন্তর্ভুক্ত করেছে। বাংলাদেশে মেধা সম্পত্তি আইন দুটি মন্ত্রণালয়ের অধীনে দুটি দপ্তর দ্বারা পরিচালিত হয়: শিল্প মন্ত্রণালয়ের অধীনে পেটেন্ট, ডিজাইন এবং ট্রেডমার্কস (ডিপিডিটি) বিভাগ এবং সংস্কৃতি বিষয়ক মন্ত্রণালয়ের অধীনে কপিরাইট অফিস।

বাংলাদেশে পাঁচটি প্রধান ধরনের মেধা সম্পত্তি সুরক্ষা হল: ট্রেডমার্ক, পেটেন্ট, শিল্প নকশা, কপিরাইট এবং ভৌগলিক ইঙ্গিত। কপিরাইট ব্যতীত, যেগুলি কপিরাইট অফিস দ্বারা নিয়ন্ত্রিত হয়, অন্যান্য সমস্ত মেধা সম্পত্তি সুরক্ষাগুলি ডিপিডিটি দ্বারা নিয়ন্ত্রিত হয়৷

To establish Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), Bangladesh has enacted Intellectual Property Law and incorporated relevant provisions from international standards on the subject. Intellectual property law in Bangladesh is administered by two offices under two ministries: the Department of Patents, Designs and Trademarks (DPDT) under the Ministry of Industry (MOI) and the Copyright Office under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs (MOCA).

The five main types of intellectual property protection in Bangladesh are Trademark, Patent, Industrial Design, Copyright and Geographical Indication. Except for copyright, which is controlled by the Copyright Office, all other intellectual property protections are controlled by the DPDT.
